Energy Saving Week 'emphasises need for EPC awareness'
Energy Saving Week has highlighted the need to increase awareness of the Energy Performance Certificate (EPC), according to a major trade body.
The Association of Home Information Pack Providers' (AHIPP) director general Mike Ockenden said that household energy users need to embrace the grading scheme if they want to reduce their energy costs and improve their carbon footprint.
Released as part of the Home Information Pack (HIP), the EPC grades the environmental impact of housing through ratings from A to G, with the former being the grade for the most environmentally-friendly properties.
Discussing the certificate, Mr Ockenden said: "Currently 27 per cent of all carbon emissions come from our homes and we have an obligation to reduce this.
"The EPC will help to significantly reduce carbon emissions and help families cut their fuel bills."
Mr Ockenden's comments have come a couple of months after figures released at the launch of the EPC found that owners of four-bedroom homes could reduce the cost of their fuel bills by hundreds of pounds by taking steps highlighted in the document.
